Two Hundred Seventy-Sixth Entry

I'm approaching panic mode with my exam. I haven't studied at all the last two weeks. I haven't even cracked my seismic and surveying books. I've decided that the exam in April will not be all or nothing. I'm gonna take the stupid thing with the expectation that I will have to sit for the exam again. It's the only way I'm not going to go ballistic. Besides, if I pass one or two components, then it was still worth the while. I can concentrate harder on the components I failed.

For those of you who don't know, there are four components in the exam: Civil Engineering Principles(8 hours), Seismic(2.5 hours), Surveying(2.5 hours) and Ethics(Take Home). I've been concentrating on the CE Principles. If I pass that one, I can become registered in most of the other states in the US. But in California, I need the other three. Hooray for California!

Two Hundred Seventy-Fifth Entry

iTunes sucks. Just when I thought legal downloadable music would fill a void in my life, iTunes has to go and suck. The jury is still out on Napster.

Yesterday I tried to download a song. It is only available from the UK store. Uh-uh. Not gonna do it. I checked the FAQ's and the bastard music industry (record companies and such) do not want music not produced or distributed by an American record company available to American consumers. If a band from another country gets an American company to release their album here, then it's OK, but until that happens, their music is off limits.

What about import CD's you ask? Well, those are legal because the record companies didn't stop the imports before they started. But since downloading music is a brand new industry, the record companies can control it and impose their own rules on it from the beginning.

It pisses me off because I was just looking through all the other countries iTunes pages and there are bands that I could potentially buy from. I'm willing to bet that even my parents would want to buy some Portuguese music from the Portuguese iTunes site but can't because of the stupid rules.

Music downloading was supposed to bring the world together! All of a sudden Kazaa and the like seem more appealing and almost worth the risk.
